AED 398

Pre-production for Vegan documentary
1. Personal- What inspired your topic?
My best friend is a vegan. So I was calling her for advice on my initial documentary idea and as I was waiting for her to answer, it hit me to do a documentary on Vegans. Its like they have their own culture in Ithaca (where she lives) I'd say at least half the people you run into there are vegetarians if not vegans. I personally feel there's no reason for it or against it, food is going to be made either way and even if you're a vegan for animal cruelty reasons, then just eat organic or locally. But either way it shouldn't be made such a big deal.
2. Working Statement/ Hypothesis
In my video project, I want viewers to see and understand vegans and what they're all about. I want the audience to understand the reasons behind people becoming vegan and what the difficulties they have are.
3. Research
Everything I know about vegans is from going to Ithaca and meeting a bunch of them. They're food bills are much more expensive and many times the reason for it is animal cruelty.I know in Ithaca it is very common and therefore many restaurants and cafes offer a wide array of items on their menu to serve all the types of people there.
I don't know if and how often they go against their beliefs. I don't know if they have hard times traveling because some places might not be so acceptable and have tofruity to put on their bagels. I don't know if they had a hard time adjusting to the different sources of nutrients such as protein.
I'll have to make majority of my video in Ithaca so I can give the audience a peek of how common and welcomed it is there. Also for the interviews I'm planning on conducting. I've already conducted a list of questions for the people I plan on interviewing.
4. Anxieties
I'm hesitated because if for some reason I don't get the information or leave information out when I'm in Ithaca I won't have the time to go back there to complete the video.
5.Topic-Clear, Brief description
The video will take a look at vegan lifestyle. Yes, it becomes a lifestyle because it is based off of some kind of beliefs the vegan has. Also I will look at the newly married couple who had a vegan wedding with all sorts of family complaints, a vegan couple raising their daughter as one, an individual who was a vegan at one time but is not one anymore and even some family members of vegans who have to plan accordingly when the vegans are coming to dinner.
6. Background
Initially I will have to explain what exactly is a vegan and whats the difference between veganism and vegetarianism.
7. Characters
Married vegan couple with a non-vegan family member in the town
Married vegan couple raising their daughter vegan
An individual who was a vegan at one point in her life
They will probably be shown in that order as well.
8. Conflict
Why be vegan? What is the point? Remove the assumptions about the term vegan. Remove the stereotype: Vegans= dirty, drugged, hippees.

I DON'T KNOW! Ahhhhh

Trying to finish all the classes i need for graduation before student teaching is driving me crazy!
My classes all overlap making me work harder and harder to make sure everything works out and i dont forget to do anything.
With that said, i am taking my junior jewelry studio as an independent study so i have to decide on my own theme and projects.
I have a lot of ideas going through my head and just cant decide.

Some ideas are:
2 or 3 finger ring
bracelet
chain
something to do with etching
flatware
musical piece
head wear
~I'm thinking these because i have never done any of them and feel like i should~

Guess i still have some thinking to do before monday!
